Because so many people are already familiar with Excel, they can leverage it for business purposes without needing to understand all of its advanced features. Many users are comfortable with basic functions like calculations, data entry, and copy-paste operations, and for many business users, that’s sufficient for their everyday needs. Additionally, if they have access to a report created in Excel—particularly one with interactive components—they can view the data, apply filters, and grab the pieces of the report that they need to add to presentations and/or other communications.
Through a series of articles that I am publishing on Substack, I will be running through an example of a simple, interactive report (I will also be compiling this into ebook shortly). Below are the links to the files referenced in this article, and those can be downloaded if you want to walk through and/or see the final results.
